Recommendations
Expand the scope of alternative punishments by diversifying forms of punishment and
facilitating the conditions for opting for them.
Conduct trainings for various stakeholders on the adoption of these punishments, as an
effective means to overcome judges’ reluctance to resort to alternative punishments.
Training lawyers to advocate for the use of these punishments may contribute to the evo-
lution of embracing alternative punishments.
Encourage media outlets to highlight the importance of alternative punishments to free-
dom-depriving punishments and their advantages.
Urge and activate the role of civil society institutions in promoting awareness of alterna-
tive punishments to freedom-depriving punishments, and elucidate their positive effects
on defendants, convicts, their families, and criminal justice agencies.
